Capturing an aspect of your analysis as an insight means that you can add supplementary elements that elaborate on your findings. Additional charts, text and statistics can all be added to insight cards.

Start editing an insight by clicking on the edit icon from the bottom right corner of the insight card.

Additionally, you can move insights around your Insights panel as well as removing them altogether.

Reordering Insight Cards

Insights can be a useful tool for saving your discoveries on the fly. Unless your thought processes always follow logical patterns ... you'll probably have to reorder your insights before you present or report them.

How to Reorder Insight Cards?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. From the top left of the insights panel, select the icon on the far left representing 'Filmstrip view' - 3 horizontal bars and 1 vertical bar.
  3. You should see a numbered list of your insight cards in the left sidebar.
  4. Click and drag a card from the sidebar up or down the list to change the order of your insight cards.
  5. The order of insights cards in the main window will respond immediately.
  6. Done ... Now you can start constructing a narrative from your findings.

Resizing Elements

The size of elements inside an insights card will affect what you want to focus people's attention on. When editing an insight card, you can resize any element by dragging its bottom right corner.

To fit more elements inside an insights card make the existing elements smaller.

How to Resize Elements Inside an Insights Card?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. Click and drag the bottom right corner of an element to resize it.
  4. Dragging left and up and will make it smaller. Dragging right and down will make it larger.
  5. Select 'Save'.
  6. Done ... Finding the right sizes for elements inside your insides helps to focus attention!

Repositioning Elements

The position of an element inside an insights card is completely fluid. You can drag it to any position that you want.

Elements that are aligned always look better.

How to Reposition Elements Inside an Insights Card?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. Click anywhere on the element you want to reposition and drag it to a new position.
  4. Select 'Save'.
  5. Done ... Hmmm ... Maybe a little to the left!

Adding Charts

It will often be useful to visually represent the variables that are affecting the main chart in an insights card. To do this, you can add variable charts that appear in your project's sidebars to insights cards.

Adding charts to insights helps to contextualise the main item of analysis you are drawing attention to.

How to Add Charts to Insights Cards?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. To add a new chart, select the '+' icon from the bottom right corner of the insights card.
  4. Select 'Chart' from the menu that pops up.
  5. From the inner menu, select the variable you want your chart to represent.
  6. Done ... A chart representing this variable will be added to your insight card.

Adding Statistics

When your insight features analysis that is affected by a quantitative variable, its possible to add summary statistics to the insights card. This element will display the min & max, median, sum and quartile values associated with that quantitative variable.

Summary statistics give your audience a quick glance at the details in your dataset.

How to Add Summary Statistics to Insights Cards?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. To add a new chart, select the '+' icon from the bottom right corner of the insights card.
  4. Select 'Statistics' from the menu that pops up.
  5. From the inner menu, select the variable you want your summary statistics to represent.
  6. Done ... Summary statistics are useful a reflection of the details in your data.

Adding Text

Use text inside your insights cards to describe and highlight your analysis. You can add two types of text; headlines and paragraphs. Headlines are a good way of pointing out the main feature of an insight and paragraphs can elaborate on your findings.

Text is useful but keep it short and to the point.

How to Text to Insights Cards?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. To add a new text element, select the '+' icon from the bottom right corner of the insights card.
  4. Select 'Text' from the menu that pops up.
  5. Choose 'Headline' to add large text or 'Paragraph' to add smaller text.
  6. Enter some text inside of the new element.
  7. Click 'OK'.
  8. To edit the text inside an element, first hover over the element.
  9. Select the edit icon in the top right of the element - the pencil inside a square.
  10. Enter your new text inside of the element.
  11. Click 'OK'.
  12. Select 'Save'.
  13. Done ... Text is particularly useful if you are presenting inside of your project's Insights panel.

Changing Legend Display

When you save a chart from the Compare or Trends panel, a legend associated with the chart will appear inside the insights card. Editing the legend allows you to toggle between a vertical and horizontal display.

Horizontal (inline) legend displays will wrap legend items to make sure everything is displayed.

How to Change the Display of a Legend?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of the Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. Hover over the legend.
  4. Click the edit icon in the top right of the legend element - the pencil inside a square.
  5. Select the dropdown menu next to the 'OK' button.
  6. Choose 'Inline' to display your legend horizontally. Choose 'Column' to display your legend vertically.
  7. Make sure your legend is large enough to display all legend items.
  8. Done ... Consider yourself a legend!

Deleting Elements

Decluttering your insights cards improves the clarity of the analysis you are communicating. To delete an element, hover over it and click on the trash icon.

Deleted elements get stored at the bottom of your insights card so that you can easily restore them.

How to Delete Elements from an Insights Card?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Select the edit icon in the bottom right corner of an Insights card - the pencil inside a square.
  3. Hover over the element that you want to delete.
  4. Click the trash icon in the top right corner of the element.
  5. Done ... To restore the element, select it from the bottom of your insights card!

Deleting Insight Cards

Throwing away insights is a necessary part of focusing on the important stuff. To delete an insights card, click the trash icon from its bottom right corner.

You can't restore cards that you delete.

How to Delete an Insights Card?

  1. Start from your project's Insights panel.
  2. Hover over the bottom of the insights card you want to delete.
  3. Select the trash icon.
  4. Click 'Accept' to remove the insight.
  5. Done ... It feels good to throw away stuff you don't need!
